Records Galore

Hey People! Yes I’m blogging after a really long time and as usual it’s about the match v played on Sunday (24-Nov-08). Though I don’t like writing about boring wins, I can’t help but write about this one as it broke many a record.

The match was against NetApp. I lead the side as Bharath isn’t available. I choose to bat after winning the toss, Shandar and Nadeem open the innings.

The first over goes like it is usually, 4 runs come of it as both the openers play watchfully just to get the feel of things. Shandar just takes off from the second over onwards scoring 27 runs of it all be it assisted with some wides. Both the openers just go on and on and on. I am not exaggerating here as u’ll know what I mean by it- Shandar scores a century…. No, he doesn’t end it there… He goes on to score 50 more… When the first wicket falls, the score reads 234 for 1 wicket in 24.1 overs, Shandar- 150 of just 85 balls (23 x 4, 3 x 6) and Nadeem 61 of 67 balls. That partnership is the highest for any wicket in the history of flippers and Shandar’s score of 150 surpassed Dushyanth’s long standing record of 148 (2004) for the highest individual score.

We finish the innings with 288 on the board of 30 overs.

NetApp chasing 289 couldn’t give much of a fight as they were polished off for just 70 runs, Salman picking up 4 wickets and supported by Sujith who picked up 3 wickets with Adarsh and Rahil picking up 2 wickets each.

All said and done, this match will be remembered for the Opening partnership and Shandar’s brilliant 150.

It’s interesting how some songs stay in our head more than others. Not for their musical merit but for the simple memories one associates with the song. Or sometimes.. how the meaningfulness of the song increases when one personally experiences the feelings that the poet is talking about. Once we relate to the song on a personal level rather than on a musical alone, the song becomes that much closer to our heart. We just don't just listen to the song, we feel it..

Was revisiting one such song today, after many months.. Gulzar’s evocative lyrics set to a simple and beautiful melody by R D Burman. The questions that life throws at us, ever so innocently.. and the storm of emotions and thoughts that we pass through as a result of it..

2 gr8 days of cricket.......

Saturday5th of may......
WESC cup tournament.........Match against AOL....... 20 over match..
We are without our stars namely: Dushyanth, Bharath, Shandar, Kunall and Pai...
V r put into bat and 10 overs later, v r in a desperate situation....64 for5...... Our mainstay, Adi, given run-out by the umpire, a bad decision....
I walk in 2 join Abhi..... I realise that i am in good touch as soon as i hit the 3rd ball i faced over the xtra-cover boundary for a SIX...... then it was all Abhi..... it was his day..... He smashed 81 not-out of just 32 balls..... a fantastic knock...... I particularly enjoyed the over where he hit 4 fours of the first 4 balls and a single of the fifth.....the bowler, already demoralised, bowled a pretty decent good-length ball outside the off stump but bcoz v were in such a good flow, it hit the middle of my bat, on-the-up and sailed outside the ground...... The score was powered-up to 194 in 20 overs.

The opposition, with a huge task in hand crumbled easily.....
Once Rahaman bowled 3 superb overs giving almost no runs they were out of it. Kiran, fresh from his honeymoon took 6 wickets....a brilliant effort...

Sunday 6th of may......

Match at our New-Look FCG against Accenture.....30 over match...

Accenture after being 123 for 5 in 23 overs manage to get the score up to 210 in 30 overs with some brilliance from their captain Sharath.
V begin the chase well.....Both Shandar and Sunny lookin in Supreme form.......
V lose Sunny throug an unfortunate Run-out.... Then, in walks Dushi......
Both, Dushi and particularly Shandar takes the Match away from the opposition with some Brilliant batting...... They share a partnership of 98 runs of just 48 balls........
Shandar just clobbered the ball all over the place.....smashing 114 not-out of just 64 balls.......with 13 fours and 5 sixes........... He just showed wat an awesome Batsman he is........

In the end we won with 10.1 overs to spare....

But all said and done, the highlight of the match was Our CEO, Mr. Ramanan's 16 of 6 balls.....including 4 consecutive 4s..........

All in all 2 gr8 days of cricket.......
